Ferozepur, Jan 05: Huge Security lapses have emerged in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Punjab’s Ferozepur district. Due to these security lapses, PM Modi cancelled his rally at Ferozpur. PM Modi cancelled a programme in Punjab after he was stuck on a flyover for around 20 minutes because of protesters, in what the government said was a major security breach this morning. Modi returned to the airport without attending an event in Bathinda because of the breach, the Home Ministry said in a statement blaming the Congress government in Punjab.

The Prime Minister landed at Bathinda for his visit to a National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala. He was to be flown to the venue by a helicopter but due to rain and poor visibility, he waited for about 20 minutes for the weather to clear.

"When the weather didn't improve, it was decided that he would visit the National Martyrs Memorial via road, which would take more than two hours. He proceeded to travel by road after necessary confirmation of necessary security arrangements by the DGP Punjab Police," the ministry said.

About 30km from the said memorial, PM’s road was blocked by the protestors, which resulted in him being stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes. The PM was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes. This was a major lapse in the security of the PM," said the Home Ministry.

The PM's schedule and travel plan was communicated well in advance to the Punjab Government. As per procedure, they have to make necessary arrangements for logistics, security as well as keep a contingency plan ready. Also in view of the contingency plan Punjab Government has to deploy additional security to secure any movement by road, which was clearly not deployed. After this security lapse, it was decided to head back to Bathinda airport."

This incident has resulted in a huge political fight between the BJP and the Congress. BJP national President has blamed the State government of Punjab headed by the Congress CM Channi for these security lapses. Bathinda Airport officials at Bathinda have reported to the news agency ANI that, the PM on his return to Bathinda airport said to them, “Thank your PM that I could return to the airport alive.”
