South Indian Cinema has always been its own kind. Different from the other cinemas, their culture, and pride show in their creativity. These days, the Kannada movie Kantara is getting so much praise, again telling us that there is something extraordinary in all kinds of South Indian Cinema. Be it Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, or Malayalam. Kantara showed us, how an entire village, its culture, and its people got destroyed because of someone’s evil intentions/ It is not just a movie, but a reality.

Kantara

Let’s talk about those 4 movies from South Indian Cinema that are not just blockbusters but eye-openers too.

1. Kantara: The list will start from the Kantara movie itself. As I mentioned in the intro, this is not just a movie but a reality of the village in Tulunadu. a divine land, a land blessed with thick rainforests and a rich culture that is deeply rooted in tradition and in the lore of the land. Famous Author Shefali Vaidya said about this movie, “Every frame of “Kantara the legend” is an ode to the culture and traditions of Tulunadu, from Kambala racing to Yakshagana to Daivaradhane, every aspect of tradition and local culture is sensitively depicted in the movie with the respect it deserves.” It’s a story of people who fought for their land, who fought for their culture against someone’s evil intentions. Kantara is a blockbuster now and crossed 100Cr. In the first go itself. However, it is not just a movie but an eye-opener too.

2. RRR: And, how can we not talk about RRR when we are talking about Eye opener South Indian movies? India is so happy that this movie is finally going to the Oscars. RRR is one of its kind movies. Whenever we talk about the Indian Freedom struggle we have been taught from childhood “De di hame Azadi Bina Khadg Bina Dhal” but the reality was different. People had to fight for their nation, and nothing happened all because of “Ahinsa” this movie is a tight slap on the face of people who believed that we got freedom due to “Non-violence” because our Krantikaris had to sacrifice their lives for this freedom, and this movie is a huge tribute to those Krantikaris. Also, the way they portrayed Prabhu Shriram at the end, was so much needed in Indian Cinema where in every second movie Hindu Dharma is being mocked. Jr. NRT and Ramcharan did a fantastic job, and there is no comparison to SS. Rajamouli’s direction. This movie was an eye-opener for the entire nation about the Indian Freedom Struggle. (PS. viewers can never forget the high exciting vibe when they saw Ram charan being Kodand Dhari Ram for the first time.)

3. Bahubali Series: Another movie that was pure work of fiction however, it was an eye opener because it showed that to make any film successful, you don’t need anyone from Khan Clan, you don’t need to mock any religion, and make fun of someone’s sentiments, you can create an outstanding movie, by depicting our culture beautifully, with a powerful storyline and great acting. Again as I said there is no comparison with SS Rajamouli’s direction. People watch these movies only by his name. And again the Bro duo, Prabhas and Rana Duggubati did a phenomenal job in their respective roles as Amarendra Bahubali/ Shiva and Bhallaldev. We still can’t get out of it at times.
