The church was built by local Christians in the same place. When Hindu devotees went to the place for offering prayers, they were not allowed by the Christians.

In the Nana Bandarpada village of the Songarh taluka in the Tapi district of Gujarat, there was a temple of Gidhmadi Aya Dungar Mata where local Hindus used to offer regular prayers. However, due to the increase in the Christian population in the area, the movement of people on this hill gradually decreased.

The Christian missionaries desecrated the temple and established their place of worship in this place and called it Mariam Mata’s Temple.

With the festival of Navaratri going on, the Hindus reached their ancient holy place to worship but a crowd of Christians also reached there and created a ruckus and the Hindus were not allowed to go to the hill.
