Coimbatore car blast case: NIA raids underway at 45 locations across Tamil Nadu

Chennai, November 10: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing the Coimbatore car blast case has conducted searches at 45 locations in Tamil Nadu. The NIA officials conducted raids at the residential premises of suspects related to incidents in areas like Kottamedu, Ponvizha Nagar, Rathinapuri, and Ukkadam.

For unreserved, a cylinder explosion in a car at the communally sensitive Ukkadam area had sent shock waves in Coimbatore and across Tamil Nadu on 30 October.
 
 
Jameesha Mubin was killed in the car explosion in front of Kottai Eswaran Temple on the morning of October 23. Mubin was an engineering graduate and was previously questioned by the NIA officials in 2019 for alleged terror links.
 
The police seized materials used to make explosives from Mubin's house in Ukkadam. Potassium nitrate, charcoal, aluminium powder and sulphur was recovered from his residence.
 
Following initial investigation, the police had arrested Muhammad Thalha, Muhammad Azharudhin, Muhammad Riyas, Muhammed Nawaz, Firoz Ismai, and Afzar Khan on charges of assisting Mubin. The six accused are accused of procuring explosives and helping to transport the items the previous night of the blast.
 
Later, the Coimbatore car blast case was handed over to the NIA. The premier terror probe agency registered a case following the Counter Terrorism and Counter Radicalization (CTCR) division of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an order asking it to start a probe into the car blast case.
