As govt prepares to invite a national debate on the Uniform Civil Code, the first point of discussion is obviously on the requirement of it and it becomes abundantly clear that it is a national requirement, not only as a unifying factor or bringing similarity in marriage and succession laws but also to control the population of this country. Let us be very clear that if our population increases above the replenishment rate, we will be short of resources in terms of land, water, food, pure air because environmental pollution will be too much. What is happening in Delhi and NCR will happen everywhere.

Just to clarify the stand of Indian Muslims, I interviewed Dr Faiyaz Ahmad Fyzie for this purpose. He clarified that Indian Pasmanda Muslims have no issue with Uniform Civil Code and they constitute the 90% of Indian Muslims.

These Muslims are those who have roots in India. Unfortunately, they are not the leaders of Indian Muslims and decisions are taken by Ashraffs who are basically of Turkic or Iranian/ Arab origin and since they are in control of resources, they dictate terms to Pasmandas as well. Govt should address the main constituency of Indian Muslims.
