Mumbai, December 07: Amid a brewing border row between two states, the Maharashtra government-led- state road Transport Corporation suspended its bus service in Karnataka on Wednesday ( December 07) after some workers of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) targetted trucks coming from Maharastra at the border yesterday.
As per the reports, the decision was taken in wake of an alert from the police. The State Transport Department confirmed that the decision was made following a security advisory from the police department that buses could be targeted and attacked in Karnataka during the agitations amid ongoing tension between the two states.
As per the govt, the service will resume once they get clearance from the police about the safety and security of the passengers and the buses.
Earlier on Tuesday, December 6, at least six trucks from Maharashtra were allegedly attacked by Kannada Rakshana Vedike in the Belagavi district. According to reports, Vedike pelted stones at the buses during the violence which occurred near Hirebagewadi.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to Karnataka CM BS Bommai over the phone discussing prevailing tension along joined border areas of their states. Fadnavis expressed his disappointment over attacks on Maharashtra’s buses in several parts of Karnataka
"I have spoken with Karnataka CM, he gave a positive response. Our constitution provides everyone with the right to live and work in any state. I will take this issue to Home Minister Amit Shah. I request people of Maharashtra to not react," said Fadnavis.
