I have been reflecting in my own way on Dattopant Thengadi Ji's Third Way. I present these small "ripples" that it has caused in my mind in a series. I am glad it has found its resonance in many thinking minds alike. I hope the readers have read the earlier article in the series before moving ahead.
Dattopant puts forth some points that need to be paid attention to. To be able to perceive the real picture of 'oneness in the midst of all diversities', it is inevitable to take the focus away from the Euro-centric history. We need to have a balanced picture. New and realistic 'framework, terms of reference to get proper focus of globalisation' is the prerequisite of creating a new order.
It is inevitable to comprehend the past and the future rationally. This implies 'unlearning the wrong and anti-future lessons'. It helps to shape or evolve a better picture where society is free from'poverty,want,fear,disease,dehumanisation and self- alienation'. Obviously this is the ultimate goal and it would require relentless efforts for a long period. Socio- economic order of a society is a part of the global order. We definitely ought to know the present state of the global order which has undergone a lot of change in the last century ( Dattopant refers to the period between 1893 and 1993)
A century is a big period of time where the relationship among various social components likes 'classes,races,genders,professions,nations' change. New Ideologies emerge, natural component like ecology too are affected.
Nation or nation-states and their independence and sovereignty acquired the central role in the global order in this period of history. After the first world War some international agencies too started playing a role . Voluntary agencies on various aspects of the transnational and basic issues are working.( like environment, human rights, civil liberties, arms control etc) At the same time some transnational evils are trying to shake the foundation of the global order . The challenges like fundamentalism,terrorism, narcotics, drugs exist globally. They challenge sovereignty of a nation.
Some nations form organisations to get the advantage in some fields related to economy like trade and make some arrangements which are beneficial for all nations. European union may be seen as an example. The concept of nation state changes with such organisations as they form common policies on many points. The consequences of these need to be assessed when the just global order is to be evolved.
Present criterion of evaluation of might or status of nations is economic prosperity and military strength. In future compositions of human groups may change and even the perception of the power too will change with science and technology. Knowledge power is gaining importance as a power. Even economics and military might have to depend on it to a great extent.
