Bengaluru, Feb 03: Staging a protest against the ongoing 'Hijab controversy' which has erupted in Karnatka, Hindu students of the Government Junior College in Kunadapur came to the college with saffron scarves around their necks.

As per the report, nearly 100 students came to the college with saffron scarves to protest against Muslim girls continuing to wear Hijab to the college.

Hijab Controversy

This comes after, 27 Muslim girls who study in the same institute had been coming to the campus wearing hijab even after management's strict warning.

As the matter started to heat-up, Kundapur MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty spoke to Education Minister BC Nagesh about the issue and held a meeting with the parents of Muslim students. He also tried to convince the parents of the Muslim students to let the girls come to the college without the hijab. However, the parents refused to let their children come to the college without the hijab. The parents said that the Muslim girls have a right to wear hijab in the college and said that it was not fair to bring religion among the students in the educational institutions.

As the girls refused to remove the Hijab, some boys decided to come to the college with saffron scarves. When they asked about it, Hindu students said that they will continue to wear saffron scarves until the Hijab is banned on the campus.

This comes a day after, a Muslim student who earlier denied entry into classes to students wearing hijab, moved the Karnataka high court seeking the right to wear headscarves inside the classroom. The writ petition, Resham Farooq, said the students’ right to wear a hijab is a fundamental right guaranteed under Articles 14 and 25 of the Constitution and is an essential practise of Islam.
