Political Hara-kiri a la Congress style

The Congress is busy implementing its one-point agenda of ousting the BJP from the power which seems to be next to impossible for it now.

We are all aware of the fact that the ostrich hides from the danger by burying its head in the sand. But in the exercise, it ends up being targeted by the hunters easily and ultimately perishes. The Congress and its leaders – the one and the only – Rahul Gandhi appears to be following just this ostrich-like attitude. He has simply refused to face the reality or recognize the ground situation his party is confronted with right now. The century and almost a quarter old Congress party is facing an existential threat and its leader Rahul Gandhi is leading it on to the path of political hara-kiri by adopting an ostrich-like attitude!

modi rahul gandhi lok sabha parliament

Strange as it may sound but it seems to be a stark reality! The Congress party, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his speech in the Lok Sabha on Monday, cannot come to power in yet another 100 years! And all (dis)credit for this hara-kiri must go to the ever-youthful Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress that remained at the forefront of the freedom struggle; that rules from panchayat to parliament for over six decades in all its variants and the party that produced stalwarts is today finds itself reduced to a political non-entity; a very strange and sad situation indeed.

The reason for this pathetic situation is the negativity in the approach of the Congress leaders. They have pointed targeted their guns against the BJP, RSS, and particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi since past many years more vigorously since 2014. The people of the country have rejected the Congress party for its indulgence in corruption, scams, and loot of the public money. Yet they seem to have not learned any lesson from the past.

That is why Congress today is confronted with the existential challenge in spite of having a strong network of sincere leaders and committed workers. The party still enjoys the support of the masses thanks to its role in the freedom struggle and its legacy of leaders like Gandhi-Nehru-Patel. Still, the party is facing the crisis of existence with its general deserting the army of workers at this crucial juncture is a strange phenomenon. This can be described as an ostrich-like approach of the Congress party leadership.

The first sign of this political hara-kiri a la Congress style was visible in the Hindi heartland which until three decades was its strong and formidable citadel. What is the picture today? Here in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress is out of power for 30 years and there are no signs of its reversing the trend, not even remotely. The party that ruled the country from panchayat to parliament now finds itself confined to Rajasthan, Punjab, and Chhattisgarh. The party has no political presence in states like Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, etc. These states are under the respective regional party rule. In view of this serious existential crisis, the Congress party should have concentrated on rebuilding its organizational strength but it is simply ignoring this vital aspect.

The Congress is busy implementing its one-point agenda of ousting the BJP from the power which seems to be next to impossible for it now. In doing so they are facing new challenges for their party. And if they continue with this negative attitude, it is most unlikely that they would see the return of the grand old glory of their party in the near and distant future.

The present-day Congress has only one objective and that is to oust BJP from power and dethrone Prime Minister Narendra Modi by hook or by crook. To achieve the party leaders are prepared to go to any extent and stoop as much low as they can even at the cost of their own existence! Congress has staked its very survival to see the BJP out of power.

The Maharashtra experiment will suffice to explain this mentality of the Congress party. The Congress party is one of the constituents of the “autorickshaw” government in Maharashtra but it does not have any say in the governance. Their ministers are repeatedly facing insults from the Shiv Sena and NCP but they are tolerating all this just to stop the BJP from coming to power in the state.

The most immature leadership of Rahul Gandhi is further taking the Congress party on the path of political hara-kiri. He should have actually led the party to success, but he is contented with throwing abuses at RSS, BJP, Modi, and Hindutva. He is not ready to listen to the voice of reason and logic of the senior party leaders and in turn, he is getting isolated in his own party. He is flanked by equally irresponsible leaders like Nana Patole and Navjyot Singh Siddu and loudmouths like Digvijay Singh who are causing more damage to the Congress party.

This is the reality. The caucus around Rahul has silenced the voice of senior leaders like Gulam Nabi and Kapil Sibbal. They are not allowed to play their role in party organizations and at the decision-making level.

In the absence of 'senior' 'stalwarts', the controls of the party are in the hands of the young, inexperienced, and immature new leaders who are managing the party affairs. They do not have enough political acumen to run a political party of the stature of the Congress. The leaders of the party have tied them to the Gandhi family and as such lost their independent thinking capability. This is a serious lacuna not only for the Congress party but for the Indian democracy also.

Rahul Gandhi is surrounded by leftists and communists who do not believe in the integrity and unity of the country. In the course of his recent address in the parliament, Rahul Gandhi had gone to extent of dividing the country into 'Rich India' and 'Poor India'; and that India is not a 'nation' it is a federation of states. He never loses a chance to attack the Modi government on trivial matters time and again. But he hardly understands what the people have seen through his game of targeting Prime Minister Modi.

When the Australian government endorsed the death of over 40 Chinese soldiers at Galwan in a skirmish with the Indian Army, Rahul Gandhi never tries to tell the country how the Modi government failed to deal with China. But conveniently forgets what his great-grandfather the first Prime Minister of India Jawahar Lal Nehru did with the Chinese invasion. The world knows that China is an expansionist country. The example of Tibet is there. How China has troubled Hong Kong and Taiwan is also known to all. Still, he is trying to blame the Modi government for the Chinese expansionist attitude. He is certainly trying to create confusion among the masses.

His theory of two India-rich and poor is also equally destructive for the country. He is not able to read the people's minds as yet is the most unfortunate scenario for the Congress party. The more he attacks Modi, RSS and BJP the more they would gain popularity and credibility in the public domain. Negativity will take Rahul and Congress nowhere. They must give a definite program of development to the people if they want to survive or face extinction with an ostrich-like attitude.
