New Delhi, Mar 1: Adam Burakowski, Ambassador of Poland to India, has denied the claims made by Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi that Indian students are being allowed to enter Poland from Ukraine. He has also asked her not to spread fake news on such matters.
Chaturvedi had called out the Poland embassy in India for denying entry into Poland from Ukraine. She also said that some who were allowed have also been sent back, adding that their parents back home are in a state of panic.
Soon after such allegations were made, Burakowski asked her not to spread fake news and check her sources before posting anything on social media. He said the Polish government did not deny entry to anyone from Ukraine. However, this did not stop her. His reply must have angered the Shiv Sena leader.
She said, "Sir, with all due respect, that’s not what I have been told by the students. Unfortunate that you called it fake news, will be happy to share numbers & names of those people stranded. And I’d appreciate before screaming fake news having the basic etiquette to reaching out."
He added he was sure Indians were not denied entry by the Polish authorities and urged her to share the details of the students with the Poland Embassy in India. He further said the Embassy of Poland in India was in constant contact with Ambassador of India to Poland Nagma Mallick to coordinate the evacuation of the Indian students.
The Ambassador asked her to DM the details as he cannot share his number in Public. In a very irked tone, she said, "No I won’t DM you, you just declared what I was requesting @IndiainPoland to help with as fake news, without seeking my response. My number and contact details are public & before you accuse have all the facts in hand. It should be noted that the Ambassador has been involved in co-ordinating the evacuation program and Chaturvedi is accusing him of not knowing the facts!
As the Ambassador had asked her to send details to the Embassy of Poland, Chaturvedi shared a photograph of the students who she claimed were denied entry in Poland or sent back from Poland. She was also angered by the fact that Indian Embassy in Poland had retweeted Burakowski’s reply to Chaturvedi.
As she correctly said that the Ambassador should have first reached out to her before calling her news fake. But this war of words would have not even started if Chaturvedi could have just sent a DM to the Indian embassy in Poland before publishing it on the social media of the Polish government denying the entry of Indian students. All the misunderstanding would have been cleared!
