Bengaluru, Mar 17: On the occasion of the Hindu festival Holi, several Muslim organisations have called for a bandh in Karnataka on Thursday following the verdict of the Karnataka High Court related to hijab.
Maulana Sagir Ahmad Khan Rashadi of the Ameer-e-Shariat, Karnataka, called for a state-wide bandh expressing sadness over the High Court verdict on the hijab. Rashadi shared a video message in which he requested all the Muslims to listen to the order and implement it strictly.
Before urging all Muslims to follow the order, Maulana Rashadi expressed anger against the "sad" order of the High Court regarding hijab and called for a state-wide bandh in Karnataka.
He appealed to every section of the Muslim community will have to participate in the bandh. "Make it successful and convey to the rulers that it is possible to get an education while adhering to the religious practices. We also request every justice-loving people and the Millat-e-Islamia to follow bandh," Rashadi said.
The Maulana also urged the youth to remain peaceful during the bandh asking them to avoid imposing bandh by closing shops forcibly, indulging in sloganeering or processions. Several other organisations attended the meeting on Wednesday where a consensus on the bandh was reportedly formed.
The Karnataka High Court held that the hijab is not an Essential Religious Practice and upheld the state government's February 5 order banning the use of any cloth on the campus that could disturb the peace, harmony, and public order.
