Firstly, let’s know what exactly is a bugyal - A bugyal is an ecologically sensitive high-altitude alpine meadow, that range between 3,300 metres and 4,000 metres of the Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand.

During the trek starting from Barsu, you are bound to come across amazing mountain views, adventurous hikes, and some of Uttarakhand’s finest alpine meadows. But what the place is actually famous for is its grand forest area, along with its the campsites and ancient villages.

The Dayara Bugyal Trek is a high-altitude meadow for treks with natural scenery, campgrounds & historic mountain villages. For Dayara Bugyal Trek, one has to go travel through the village of Barsu. The rolling green meadows here stretch as far as your eye can see. The Barnala and Dayara ridges can be seen right from the lawns at Barsu. The fields give way to trees within 10 minutes of the climb of the trek. The dense meadows allow us a peek into the greater Himalayas. As you end the ascend at Dayara, the rolling meadow will unfold before you. In terms of difficulty level, Dayara Bugyal is an easy trek, which also means it is perfect for beginners.

During spring season, there is a vibrant juxtaposition of greenery of the grasslands and red and pink rhododendrons here. In winters, the place turns snow clad where people come to ski along with more snow related activities. The trek is open all through the year except in the monsoons.

The Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, recently visited Raithal village in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand and inspected the tourism development schemes here. He held a meeting with the District Magistrate (DM) Mayur Dixit in Raithal village, seeking information about these development schemes.

He also appreciated the efforts of the Forest Department for maintaining the trek route and for ensuring proper cleanliness in the area. He also informed that tourism in Uttarakshi is boosting, as the villages of Barsu and Raithal are emerging as home stays and trekking centers.

The DM also met trainee IPS, IFS, IDES, IRS from Hyderabad at Barnala, located at a distance of 4 km from Barsu & apprised them about the major tourist track routes of Uttarkashi. The District Magistrate asked all the trainees to enjoy the nature and also maintain their participation in cleanliness on the tourist routes.

It is safe to say that this destination should definitely find a place in your travel bucket list, if you are an avid trekker. Do not forget to leave the place clean, just as you found it. This bugyal is hands down, a must visit in India, and is a gift from nature. Let us make sure our intrusion to this gift doesn't hamper the state of it, and is left healthy and clean.
