Stone-pelting incident during religious procession in Mumbai's Aarey colony; 25 arrested

The police have registered three separate cases into the matter and arrested 25 persons involved in the incident so far.

Mumbai, April 19: A stone-pelting incident took place between two groups in Mumbai's Aarey colony during a Kalash Yatra leaving nearly 8 people injured, said a police official. The incident took place when the Kalash Yatra was being taken out from the Shiva Temple located in Gautam Nagar.

The incident is said to have occurred just before the conclusion of the procession. The police have registered three separate cases into the matter and arrested 25 persons involved in the incident so far.
 
 
Additional Commissioner of Police Pravin Padwal said, “We have arrested 25 people, and the situation is peaceful now. The cause of the conflict was a personal misunderstanding. No one has been admitted. Some people suffered minor wounds. We have registered the case.”

According to the police, the situation is under control and a peaceful atmosphere has been established. "Misunderstanding between the groups was the cause of the conflict. Nobody is admitted to the hospital. 2-4 people have sustained minor injuries. We have slapped the sections of rioting and 307," DCP Somnath Gharge said.
 
 
After the incident, the temple was covered with a piece of cloth and the use of loudspeakers was prohibited as a precautionary measure.

A similar incident happened in Amrawati after a saffron flag was hoisted at Dula Gate on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti in Achalpur city of Amaravati. The administration imposed Section 144 to maintain law and order.

ADSP Shashikant Satav said the Police arrested 16 people in the matter. Over 600 police officials were deployed to Achalpur-Paratwada twin city and Kundli village to avoid any clashes.
