Boris Johnson's visit to India is timed with UK's Indo pacific tilt policy as well as at such crucial time when both sides are to decide about the free trade pact. Indian PM Modi and British his counterpart last met in Nov 2021, during the Glasgow climate summit. For the recent times, none of PM Johnson's visits have worked as they were planned.

In 2021, Johnson had to cancel his India visits twice. The British PM was the Guest of Honor for 2021 Republic Day parade at New Delhi. However, due to the increasing surge COVID 19 in India, the visit was cancelled. Another severe wave of the pandemic resulted in calling off his another visit that was planned in Apr 2021. The increasing surge of patients in the UK, resulted in the cancellation of PM Modi's UK visit during the G& summit, where he was invited as the guest.

The two leaders were bilaterally engaged in a virtual summit in May 2021, for a policy level discussion, when 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' was adopted to be the nature of the future of the bilateral ties. The British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss had visited India recently as part of a "wider diplomatic push" amid Russian invasion of Ukraine. Post Brexit, UK had announced the Indo Pacific tilt policy.
