Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S Jaishankar has shared the High Commission's tweet saying that India sticks by its neighbour first policy and stands with Sri Lanka amid such tragic times of crisis.
The Indian govt has been standing by the island nation ever since the crisis begun. Last month Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was on his visit to New Delhi to discuss the crisis that Sri Lanka is going through. After the discussion, PM Modi had conveyed to Sri Lankan Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa that India would always stand with the island nation as it occupies a central role in New Delhi's neighborhood first policy.
Besides, in Feb the Indian govt has also provided Sri lanka with a short term loan of USD 500 million for the purchase of Petroleum products through the Ministry of Energy and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. Indian govt had also provided the island nation with 100 tones Nano Nitrogen liquid fertilizers in Nov 2021, as it had stopped import of chemical fertilizers, owing to the crisis.
