Sri Lanka Crisis: MK Stalin reaches to Jaishankar urging aid for Sri Lankan Tamils

Chief Minister Stalin has expressed grave concern over the Tamils living in Northern and Eastern Provinces and also those in Colombo. He has shared that the Tamil Nadu govt was ready to help them by sending essential commodities from the Tuticorin Port.

Chennai, Apr 8: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on a telephonic conversation with External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar urged the latter to help the Lankan Tamils that have been adversely affected by the crisis in the island nation. Dr Jaishankar assured the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, that necessary action would be taken on the demands put forth by him.

According to the CMO Tamil Nadu's official release, Chief Minister Stalin has expressed grave concern over the Tamils living in Northern and Eastern Provinces and also those in Colombo, who were hit hard by the unprecedented economic crisis. He has shared that the Tamil Nadu govt was ready to help them by sending essential commodities like rice, dal and life saving drugs through maritime means, from the Tuticorin Port.
 
 
 
 
 
The Chief Minister has urged Dr. Jaishankar to provide necessary permissions and proceed towards distribution of the humanitarian aid through the Indian Embassy in Colombo, to the Tamils in Jaffna and Colombo. He has also recalled the memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Delhi on Mar 31. As per the official release, Stalin has requested Dr. Jaishankar to take steps to fulfill the demands mentioned in the memorandum immediately.
 
 
On the same line, MK Stalin mentioned the long unresolved issue of the continued attack and assault on the fishermen of Tamil Nadu by Sri Lankan Navy and expressed deep concerns about it. He has requested Dr. Jaishankar to secure their release from prison and also their boats impounded by the Lankan authorities.
