K'taka includes RSS Founder’s speech as a lesson in Class X textbook

As per the changes, the lesson has been included in the syllabus as the first language Kannada Textbook prescribed for the SSLC (Class 10) students for the academic year 2022-23.

Bengaluru, May 16: In a major development, the Karnataka government-led Education Department is including Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar's speech as one of the lessons in the Class X textbook.

The Textbook Revision Committee, headed by author Rohit Chakratirth, had recommended the text of Hedgewar’s speech be included in the curriculum. The committee submitted its final report to the government in March. Following this, the government has directed the Karnataka Textbook Society to incorporate the changes into social studies textbooks for grades 6-10 beginning with the 2022-23 academic year.
 
 
As per the changes, the lesson has been included in the syllabus as the first language Kannada Textbook prescribed for the SSLC (Class 10) students for the academic year 2022-23.
 
The title of the text is "Nizawada ideal man Yaragabeku?" (Who should be a real role model?). It is number 5 in the Kannada prose textbook, which is now in the process of being published. The printing of the textbooks is underway.
 
Earlier, the committee set up by the government has recommended to the education department to retain the chapter on Tipu Sultan without any glorification of him, according to sources in the department."The chapters on Dattatray Peeta in Chikmagaluru suggested to include in the textbooks while a lesson on Tipu Sultan is retained as it has historical significance and deletes only chapters of him been glorified," sources added.
