Mumbai, May 17: Gujarat's anti-terrorist squad on Tuesday, arrested four people accused in 1993 Bombay serial blasts case. 257 people were killed and over 700 seriously injured as a series of blasts shook Mumbai on March 12, 1993.

Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and Memon family are believed to be the masterminds behind the attack. Over the last 3 decades, several accused individuals have been apprehended & sentenced. Two of the main suspects - Dawood Ibrahim and Tiger Memon, however continue to remain elusive.
 
 
Earlier in February this year, Indian security agencies successfully apprehended Abu Bakar in the UAE. The close Dawood aide is one of the prime conspirators behind the 1993 blasts, and a Red Corner Notice had been issued against him in 1997.

In 2013, the Supreme Court upheld its judgement sentencing Yakub Memon to death and commuted the previously decreed death sentences against 10 others to a life sentence. Memon had been convicted for arranging and financing training as well as purchasing vehicles used for the bombings.

In September 2017, a special TADA court pronounced the punishment for 6 convicts. Karimullah Shaikh and Abu Salem were sentenced to life imprisonment, Riyaz Ahmed Siddiqui to 10 years in prison and Tahir Merchant and Firoz Abdul Rashid Khan to death Abdul Qayoom acquitted.
