Dehradun, May 2: In Uttarakhand, the study of religious texts like Bhagwat Gita, Veda-Puran, Upanishads, Ramayana, and the history of Uttarakhand will be part of the school syllabus.
This came after state Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat informed that the National Education Policy will be implemented in the upcoming academic session. He said the decision was taken after the state government took suggestions from the public & consulting the academicians.
"National Education Policy will be implemented in the upcoming session. We'll be including Vedas, Gita, Ramayana & history of Uttarakhand in the syllabus after taking suggestions from the public & consulting the academicians, the State Education minister said.
The aim is to introduce these religious texts in the curriculum to acquaint school students with their culture and traditional Indian knowledge. He said Uttarakhand will become the first state to implement the NEP in upcoming academic session.
The Gujarat government has already introduced the study of Bhagwat Gita in the school curriculum. Himachal Pradesh has done it too. In December, Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal Gurjar had announced that the BJP-led-state government is going to include the verses of Bhagavad Gita in school textbooks.
