Colombo, May 9: In continuation to the worsening chaos in Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has announced his resignation from the position. Mahinda's resignation will likely pave way for a new cabinet in the crisis struck nation.

Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa's resignation comes days after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa requested Mahinda to step down from the position in a special meeting, on May 6. Gotabaya mentioned that Mahinda's resignation as the Prime Minister might result in a melt down in the ongoing political crisis.
 
 
 
 
 
Following Mahinda Rajapaksa's resignation, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is expected to invite all the political parties in parliament to form an all - party Cabinet to deal with the miserable times the island nation is going through. Earlier, the Samagi Jnana Balawegaya (SBJ) confirmed that its leader Sajith Premadasa will not accept the Prime Minister's post in an interim govt.
 
Mahinda Rajapaksa took it to Twitter before resigning and said, "While emotions are running high in lka, I urge our general public to exercise restraint & remember that violence only begets violence. The economic crisis we're in needs an economic solution which this administration is committed to resolving." Through another tweet he said, "Effective immediately I have tendered my resignation as Prime Minister to the President."
