This death threat comes at the time when the Hijab controversy is again resurfacing in Karnataka. On 6 June, 24 students were suspended in Uppinangady municipality for attempting to wear a hijab in class despite many warnings from college administrators. It should be noted that Yashpal is the vice-president of the Udupi government's Pre-University College Development Committee.

As per the reports Yashpal is receiving life-threatening calls and messages on social media since the last week. A post on Instagram in Karnataka called for the beheading of BJP politician Yashpal Suvarna and Sri Ram Sena leader Pramod Muthalik for money. According to the social media post, whoever murders Survarna and Muthalik would receive Rs 10 lakh apiece.

Police has also lodged a case at Udupi's Kaup police station against the miscreants involved for the claimed messages and social media.

Talking about it, Yashpal said, “Police department has sent a gun man as protection to me. I am not a person who is grown in gun man culture. I have told SP that I do not want gun man when I am running around in Udupi. I will seek the advice of seniors at the party in this respect. The police department has asked me to keep gun man mandatorily."
