Nagaland Police file charge sheet against thirty Indian army personnel, including a Major

New Delhi, Jun 13: The Nagaland Police have filed a charge sheet against thirty Indian army personnel for an alleged mismanaged operation that resulted in loss of 6 civilian lives. A Major is include among the thirty army personnel against whom the charge sheet has been filed. The operation took place in Nagaland's Mon district, last December.

A charge sheet has been filed against 30 army personnel regarding a mismanaged operation that took place in Dec 2021, in Mon district of Nagaland. According to the statement of Nagaland police, the army personnel have been accused of 'not following the Standard Operating Procedure and the Rules of Engagement' and exercising 'indiscriminate and disproportionate firing'. The personnel belonged to 21 Para Special Forces.
 
 
 
 
 
On Dec 4 2021, due to 'mistaken identity', the security forces had fired at a pickup truck carrying eight miners in eastern Nagaland’s Oting village. The firing resulted in six of the civilians dying on the spot, whereas two of them survived. Besides, according to reports the shootout lead to further violence in retaliation that resulted in death of seven more civilians. One of the security personnel was also Killed In Action (KIA).
 
According to the recent statement of Nagaland Police, the charge sheet is based on the findings of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that the state govt had set up to probe the case , that was filed at the district in Mon, on May 30. The SIT probe statement read that the Army team had shot at the vehicle carrying the miners, without ensuring positive identification.
