New Delhi, June 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday instructed his government to recruit 10 lakh people in "mission mode" over the next 1.5 years after reviewing the employment status in all departments and ministries.

The Office of the Prime Minister tweeted on Tuesday, "PM @narendramodi reviewed the status of Human Resources in all departments and ministries and instructed that recruitment of 10 lakh people be done by the Government in mission mode in next 1.5 years."
 
 
This development came after there have been issues related to unemployment. With this decision of PM Narendra Modi, the Centre has set a deadline for filling up 10 lakh vacancies by December 2023 for which all the recruitments shall take place within 18 months.
 
India’s urban unemployment rate jumped to 12.6 per cent in the April-June quarter of 2021, compared to 9.3 per cent in the January-March quarter. It, however, eased from the 20.8 per cent level seen during the first wave of the Covid pandemic, the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) shows.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment on March 24 this year said, "The data on Employment and Unemployment is collected through Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) conducted by National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) since 2017-18."
 
Employment generation coupled with improving employability is the priority of the Government, the government data said. Accordingly, the Government of India has taken various steps for generating employment in the country.
