Sangrur, Jun 14: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Sangrur Lok Sabha bypoll Gurmel Singh Monday slammed the opposition for politicizing the death of singer Sidhu Moosewala, and Congress for using the slain singer’s photos in party’s election song released in favor of the party candidate Dalvir Singh Goldy for upcoming Sangur bypolls.

“A mother has lost his son but it is appalling that Congress is trying to get mileage from his death in the elections. Congress should resist using such tactics and hurt sentiments of family and fans,” Gurmail Singh said during his campaigning.

Lambasting opposition for targeting the AAP government for the alleged deterioration of the law and order situation in the state, Gurmail said that the gangsters were patronized by successive governments for the past 70 years and now they are putting all the blame on the CM Mann-led AAP government’s almost three-month governance. In March 2022, AAP won the Punjab assembly elections by a landslide winning over 90 seats in a 117-seat assembly. But within three months, the political atmosphere of Punjab changed entirely. Nuance around AAP has vanished, and conspiracy theories around Delhi CM controlling the Punjab government are closer to reality. The law and order situation in Punjab has deteriorated substantially, with extremist Khalistani elements being on the rise.

In this atmosphere, the Murder of popular singer Sidhu Moosewala might have just tipped the balance in favor of the opposition parties. It would be interesting to see the outcome of this by-poll as the seat was held by Punjab CM himself.
