Police arrests madrassa cleric for sexually assaulting children in Kerala, invokes POCSO against him

After the incident came to light, police arrested Zubair Darimi under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. Police also registered a complaint against mosque officials who concealed the rape and criminally conspired to help Darimi escape the law.

Aadoor, Jun 15: A shocking incident came to light from Kerala's Kasaragod, where a madrassa cleric named Zubair Darimi sexually assaulted a 13-year-old student. He had been sexually assaulting the boy over the past several months. The victim is from Periye in Kasaragod. The incident happened at a madrassa attached to the Aadoor Jamaat mosque.

After the incident came to light, police arrested Zubair Darimi under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. Police also registered a complaint against mosque officials who concealed the rape and criminally conspired to help Darimi escape the law. The police also looked up to the mosque authorities, who tried to cover up the incident.
 
Darimi is a native of somewhere in south Karnataka.
 
The report suggests that the incident came to light after the minor’s mother approached the Jamaat committee members and complained about the rape. However, taking action against Darimi, Committee members tried to threaten the boy and told his family that his future would be at stake if they disclosed the matter to anyone else. The mosque committee transferred the pedophile to another madrassa cum boarding school near Padanakkad in the same district.
 
 
 
However, someone then leaked the information to the Child Helpline authorities. When the childline officials approached the committee members, they refused to cooperate. Investigations led them to the victim, who revealed what had happened to the authorities.
 
After which Adoor police arrested Darimi from the Padanakkad madrassa where he worked. Following the incident, at least nine minors from the same madrassa confessed that Darimi had sexually abused them. Mosque authorities had silenced them all.
