Leaders of opposition parties are set to join a meeting called by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to formulate a joint strategy for the upcoming presidential polls. On Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee landed in Delhi and met Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar at his residence. During the meet, Mamata Banerjee asked Sharad Pawar to be the opposition nominee for presidential polls. The NCP chief, however, declined the offer, saying that he wants to remain in active politics. Last week, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee wrote to 22 opposition leaders and chief ministers requesting them to attend the meeting on June 15 at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. Non-BJP parties, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, were requested to attend the meeting.

Congress will participate in the Opposition meeting called by Mamata Banerjee. Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Jairam Ramesh, and Randeep Surjewala may likely attend the meeting. Several other opposition parties are likely to attend the meeting called by Mamata Banerjee and take forward the discussion on fielding a common candidate.
