Five metal idols discovered at construction site in Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu

According to initial reports during the earlier finding when 2 idols were found, Muthukumar, a farmer from Mandi Street near Alangudi in Tamil Nadu came across an idol of Lord Vishnu measuring three feet and one of Appar measuring one foot on May 19.

New Delhi, Jun 16: Five metal idols were reportedly found at a construction site near Alangudi in Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu, that included idols of Vishnu, Perumal, Sridevi and Bhudevi. The incident is not an isolated one and the site has a recent history of another two metal idols and 23 puja articles being unearthed on May 19.

According to initial reports during the earlier finding when 2 idols were found, Muthukumar, a farmer from Mandi Street near Alangudi, came across an idol of Lord Vishnu measuring three feet and one of Appar measuring one foot on May 19. The recovery took place when Muthukumar was digging the ground for constructing concrete pillars for a house. At the same time, Muthukumar also came across 23 small utensils and puja articles used for performing puja in temples.
 
 
 
 
 
Eventually when Muthukumar informed the regional revenue officials in Valangaiman about the findings, a team of officials headed by tahsildar Santhana Gopalakrishnan was tasked to inspect the idols and utensils. The team took the retrieved artifacts to his office at Valangaiman, where they have been kept in safe custody. According to the instructions of the officials, the construction was stopped until the archeological department officials inspected the spot.

When Muthukumar received permission to proceed, he further resumed the construction work and completed the pillars and blocks. Later, when the mud was removed, the recent five idols were recovered buried in the heap. Presently, the tahsildar and team have possession of the five idols, who have secured the idols.
