New Delhi, June 21: The Indian Coast Guard inducted the indigenously-built Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Mk3, into the Coast Guard Region East. It is the first time that the chopper was inducted into the newly created '840 Squadron' that is to be based in Chennai.

Three more choppers will be inducted soon. The first chopper was received at Coast Guard Air Station, Chennai in the presence of Inspector General AP Badola, Commander, Coast Guard Region East.
 
 
This induction will strengthen the Coast Guard Region East with squadron being based in Chennai. As part of '840 squadron', the state-of-the-art helicopter will address India’s multi-faceted marine interests within the Exclusive Economic Zone.

The ALH MK III aircraft has been manufactured in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The aircraft represents a tremendous leap towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing in line with PM Modi-led central government's vision to create ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.
