It should be reminded that Naveen, a native of Chalageri in the Haveri district, was a final year MBBS student at Kharkiv National Medical University. He was killed in Russian shelling on March 1, when he was reportedly standing in a queue to buy food. His body was brought back to his hometown, Chalageri village in Haveri, on March 21.

During the meeting, Naveen's father, Shekharappa Gyanagoudar, appealed to the PM to make arrangements for medical students who have returned from Ukraine to study in India. He also requested Modi to create more opportunities for poor aspiring medical students so that Indians don't need to travel to other countries to pursue their dream.

As per the reports, the National Medical Commission has proposed to allow final year medical students from Ukraine who were unable to complete their practical training due to the Ukraine war to sit for the Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE), a screening test which foreign medical students have to clear to practice in India.
