PM Modi meets NDA's Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu, says her nomination appreciated across India

Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Modi said her candidature for the post of President has been appreciated across India by all sections of society.

New Delhi, June 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA's Presidential candidate, Droupadi Murmu, soon after she arrive in the national capital for her nomination on June 24.

Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Modi said her candidature for the post of President has been appreciated across India by all sections of society.
 
"Met Droupadi Murmu Ji. Her Presidential nomination has been appreciated across India by all sections of society. Her understanding of grassroots problems and vision for India's development is outstanding (sic)," PM Modi tweeted. Murmu is expected to file her nomination papers on Friday, with PM Modi tipped to be the first proposer.
 
A host of senior BJP leaders, including Union ministers and functionaries from other parties supporting her bid, are also set to be among the proposers. She will also meet a host of senior leaders and then embark on a nationwide campaign, urging different political parties to support her bid.
 
 
 
The ruling BJP on Tuesday named former Jharkhand governor Draupadi Murmu as the ruling National Democratic Alliance's presidential candidate. If elected, the 64-year-old leader from Odisha will be the first tribal and the second woman to become the President of India.
 
The presidential election is scheduled for July 18 and the votes will be counted on July 21. The last date for filing nominations is June 29. The president is elected by the members of the electoral college consisting of MPs from both Houses of Parliament and MLAs of all states, including the Union Territories of Delhi and Puducherry.
 
On the other hand, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh announced that former Union minister Yashwant Sinha will be the common candidate of the Opposition parties for the Presidential election.
