Back to roots! Varanasi airport introduces Sanskrit for announcement, becomes first to do so

Until now, only Hindi and English languages were used for these announcements at the airport. But from Friday, Sanskrit was added as the third language for the purpose. The initiative has been started by Airports Authority of India (AAI) together with Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

Taking a great decision to bring Sanskrit back to the mainstream, Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi has introduced the Sanskrit language for making announcements in the airport premises. With that, Varanasi airport has become the first airport in the country to use the Sanskrit language for public announcements.

"Now at Varanasi Airport, after English and Hindi, Covid norms are being announced in Sanskrit too. As soon as the passengers enter the airport, they will feel they have entered the hub of the Sanskrit language," Varanasi Airport said in a tweet on its official Twitter account in Hindi.

Talking about the great initiative, Airport director Aryama Sanyal said the Sanskrit announcement initiative started to give respect to the language.
 
The Varanasi airport is located in Babatpur, 26 km from the city. It was renamed Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in October 2005. The Varanasi airport is the second-busiest airport in Uttar Pradesh.
