The attack led to tension in Kalpetta, where the office is situated. Police said the attack on the MP’s office was unexpected and a handful of policemen were present when SFI activists took out a procession. Protestors barged into the three-story office suddenly and vandalised it after attacking office staff, they said.

Office secretary Augustine Pulpally was seriously injured in the attack. Activists were seen raising slogans that the attack was a retaliation to an in-flight protest against the CM two weeks back. Many female activists were also present in the attack. As per the reports, the SFI workers are angry over Rahul Gandhi’s alleged silence about the recent Supreme Court order over maintaining an eco-sensitive zone.

The Congress further alleges that "the goons held the flags of SFI" as they climbed the wall of Rahul Gandhi's Wayanad office and vandalised it. Congress alleged that the Wayanad MP’s office was vandalised with the knowledge of the Chief Minister, Vijayan.

Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had condemned the attack and assured that strict actions will be taken against the culprits. The CM said that people in the country have got the right to protest. However, it should be in a democratic manner, but such protest taking a violent turn is counted under the wrong tendency.
