On this day i.e. June 25, 1975, the Congress government led by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, creating another huge crisis, declared an emergency due to the prevailing "internal disturbance". The Congress had snatched the Constitutional rights of every Indian overnight for power, imposed an Emergency, and left the foreign rule behind in terms of brutality. The period has been named a dark chapter in the history of this country, which can never be forgotten.
When Former SC Judge KT Thomas Credited RSS For Protecting Indians During #Emergency

Emergency was declared for a 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Officially issued by President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed under Article 352 of the Constitution due to the prevailing "internal disturbance", the Emergency was in effect from June 25, 1975, until its withdrawal on March 21, 1977.

The order vested upon the Prime Minister the authority to rule by decree, allowing elections to be suspended and civil liberties to be curbed. The final decision to impose an Emergency was proposed by Indira Gandhi, agreed upon by the President, and thereafter ratified by the Cabinet and the Parliament (from July to August 1975), based on the rationale that there were imminent internal and external threats to the Indian state.

There are few poeple who are aware of the fact that RSS had major contribution during this struggle, in order to bring back the democracy in India. Unlike some liberals who have the ideology of "Break India" brigade, the RSS has mostly run on the platform of patriotism and openly acknowledged its Hindu roots and affiliation. At that time, spending hundreds of nights in jail without any trials, RSS had to go through a "second freedom struggle".

Acknowledging this struggle of RSS, Justice K T Thomas, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of India gave full credit to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for ensuring the safety of the people of the country. Addressing the RSS training camp in Kottayam in Kerala in the year of 2018, he praised the role of RSS during Emergency.
"If an organisation has to be given credit for freeing the country from the Emergency, I would give that to the RSS ..If asked why people are safe in India, I would say there is a Constitution, there is a democracy, there is Army & fortunately the RSS.." said Former SC Judge KT Thomas

The former SC judge who had chaired the RSS-Christian Perspective Analysis Meet at Hosanna Mount, Pala in 2002 along with the then RSS Chief K S Sudarshan felt that the Sangh imparted discipline to its volunteers for “protection of the country”.

He had also said, "Snakes have venom as a weapon to defend (themselves against) attacks on them. Similarly, the might of man is not meant to attack anyone. I appreciate the RSS for teaching and believing that physical strength is meant to guard (oneself) against attacks. I understand that the physical training of RSS is to defend the country and the society at the time of attacks."

He said, "If asked why people are safe in India, I would say that there is a Constitution in the country, there is democracy, there are the armed forces, and fourthly the RSS is there. What prompts me to say is that the RSS had worked against the Emergency. The RSS's strong and well-organized work against the Emergency had reached then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi…. She understood that it could not go (on for) long."
