Sinha was earlier with the BJP but he left the party in 2018. Sinha also reached out to veteran BJP leader LK Advani.

From the opposition, Sinha also dialed Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren for the support of his party - Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which is reportedly leaning toward NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu who comes from the Santhal tribal community.

Earlier in the day, he shared a letter to the leaders of the opposition thanking them for choosing him as their common candidate for the presidential elections. "I assure you - and the people of India - that, if elected, I shall conscientiously uphold, without fear or favour, the basic values and guiding ideals of the Indian Constitution," he said.

Sinha will file his nomination papers on June 27.

So far, two opposition parties - YSRCP of Jagan Mohan Reddy and BJD of Naveen Patnaik - have extended support to NDA candidate Murmu. Murmu comes from Odisha's Mayurbhanj district. Today, she filed the nomination papers in presence of Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several other senior leaders from the BJP and other parties.

After filing the nomination, Murmu spoke with Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, seeking their party's support for her candidature in the presidential polls.
