China opposes India's plan to host G20 meets in J&K, says avoid politicizing it

Beijing, July 1: After Pakistan interfered in India's internal matters, now China has voiced opposition against India's reported plan of hosting certain G20 events at locations in Jammu & Kashmir, stating that relevant sides should not "politicize the issue". This comes in the backdrop of Pakistan gaining support from its allies- China, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

 

 

 

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian, in a press briefing, stated, "We have noted relevant information. "China's position on Kashmir is consistent and clear cut. It is a legacy issue between India and Pakistan. It should be properly resolved in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions and bilateral agreements," Zhao said.

 

Further, he said. "relevant parties should avoid complicating the situation with the unilateral move. We need to address the disputes through dialogue and consultation and jointly uphold peace and stability."

 

 

 

These reactions from China came afer Pakistan rejected any Indian plans of holding certain G20 events in J-K. Pakistan is reaching out to its close allies in the group of twenty - China, Turkey and Saudi Arabia to boycott the G20 meeting in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

On other hand, India is set to assume the presidency of the G20 in December this year. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal was appointed as India's Sherpa for the G20 in September 2021. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India will hold the G-20 presidency from December 1, 2022, and convene the first G20 leaders' summit in 2023.

 

 

India's representation at G20 summits has been led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi since 2014. Reportedly, G20 is the grouping of 20 biggest world economies; which include Australia, Brazil, China, Canada, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
