AltNews co-founder Mohammed Zubair has moved the Supreme Court seeking to quash all six cases registered against him by the Uttar Pradesh police over his ‘controversial’ tweets.The six FIRs were filed against him in UP’s Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, Sitapur, Lakhimpur and Hathras.

Zubair, in his plea before the top court, has also challenged the constitution of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the UP Police to probe the pending cases against him. The SIT was formed under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Preet Inder Singh.
 
He was arrested by the Delhi Police on June 27 for a 2018 tweet on charges of hurting religious sentiments after receiving a complaint from a social media user.
The Supreme Court had earlier extended his interim bail in the case registered at Sitapur for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. With no relief in the other cases against him, Zubair continues to be in jail.
