Before his body was found, a ‘sar tan se juda’ text was sent from his phone to his father. A similar story was uploaded on his Instagram account too. Rathore’s last rites took place on Monday.

Investigation into the matter is underway. Police are investigating all possible angles in the matter. There are some reports suggesting Nishank invested in share market and cryptocurrency and faced losses. He also owed money to some of his friends.

Shiv Rathore, Nishank’s cousin, was quoted saying that his brother was brave and was not stressed about anything. He said, “Police are trying to divert the issue but this is a murder through conspiracy.” Nishank’s family has categorically said that he could not have committed suicide and that it was a well-planned murder.

MP Home minister Narottam Mishra on Tuesday, constituted an SIT to investigate the death of Rathore. According to reports, Mishra said, “Prima facia it appears to be a case of suicide and the viscera has been preserved. The cellphone is also being investigated, (as is) the message sent to the family. The message was sent before the incident but is still being investigated. I will order Raisen police to constitute an SIT to probe the case thoroughly.”

He said that the postmortem report has been studied closely and it clearly says death due to being hit by the train. But the SIT has been formed to look into the mobile phone, messages and what could be probable cause of suicide.

Notably, Nishank was vocal about his religious views and often took part in religious functions. The family is planning to submit the memorandum to officials and politicians. They want an in-depth investigation over the death of their son and will urge the authorities not to downplay the ‘murder for blasphemy’ angle.

Rathore was a third-year college student. He was found dead on the railway tracks near Obaidullaganj town in the Raisen district of MP on July 24. Before his dead body was found, his father received a message saying, 'Gustakh-e-Nabi ki Ek saza, sar tan sey judaa.'
