Indian embassy asks Canada to withdraw screening of Hinduphobic film ‘Kaali’

New Delhi, July 05: In the wake of the controversy over the objectionable film Kaali which deliberately hurts Hindu sentiments, now the Indian High Commission in Canada has urged Canadian authorities to withdraw the screening of the film.

The High Commission of India in Ottawa has released a statement on the issue. In the statement, the High Commission said they have received complaints from leaders of the Hindu community in Canada about the "disrespectful depiction of Hindu Gods on the poster of a film showcased as part of the 'Under the Tent' project at the Aga Khan Museum, Toronto."
 
 
“Our Consulate General in Toronto has conveyed these concerns to the organizers of the event. We are also informed that several Hindu groups have approached authorities in Canada to take action,” the Indian High Commission in Ottawa remarked.
 
 
 
The press release concluded, “We urge the Canadian authorities and the event organizers to withdraw all such provocative material.”
 
A row of controversy erupted after the filmmaker Leena Manimekalai shared the poster of an objectional named ‘Kaali’ on social media that depicts a woman dressed as Goddess Kaali, holding an LGBTQ+ flag and smoking a cigarette.
