Amravati Police Commissioner Arti Singh, appealed to people to contact nearest Police station if someone threatens them directly / indirectly over their posts on Nupur Sharma. Details of the complainant will be kept confidential, she said.

The Amravati incident happened days before the Udaipur incident, where a tailor was beheaded by two Muslim men for allegedly forwarding a message in support of Nupur Sharma.

Amravati Police have arrested the accused including the alleged mastermind. They have been booked under Sections 302 (murder), 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case has been transfered to NIA.

Earlier, independent MP Navneet Rana alleged that the city police commissioner was trying to suppress the fact by portraying it as a case of robbery. However, she denied the charge saying this was a blind case and police could not have issued any statement unless the evidence was clear.

"It was a blind and sensitive case. In such cases, we can't say anything, and can't issue an official statement before having all the evidence," she said.
