Udaipur, August 12: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a ninth arrest in connection with tailor Kanhaiy Lal's brutal murder. The arrested accused was identified as Muslim Khan and had an active role in the conspiracy, police noted.
Notably, Hindu tailor Kanhaiya Lal was brutally murdered inside his shop in Udaipur on June 28 for sharing a social media post in support of ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma over her controversial remark against Prophet Mohammad. After killing him, the two accused, Riyaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad posted a video on social media, saying that they were avenging an insult to Islam.
NIA made the 8th arrest in the case last month on July 22. The arrested accused was identified as 19-year-old Mohammed Javed. Notably, the main accused, Riyaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad were arrested within hours of the killing.
Five more persons were also arrested subsequently, including Farhad Mohammad Sheikh, alias Babla, who was arrested on July 9.
Notably, the two accused, Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, went to Kanhaiya Lal's shop posing as customers. Kanhaiya Lal was ambushed while he was taking the measurements as one of them attacked him with a cleaver.
They later posted a video of the brutal murder on social media. Kanhaiya Lal's murder sparked a row followed by tension and incidents of violence in Rajasthan's Udaipur. Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government provided government jobs to his two sons.
