Vatsala Panduranga Kirtani

"On Jun 18, 1946, an incident in Panaji shook the Portuguese rulers. A young girl, Vatsala Pandurang Kirtani, unintentionally offended the Portuguese police commandant with her littlest gesture of calling out the slogan of 'Jai Hind'.

What makes her stand out, is her actions after that. On being questioned about the slogan Vatsala said “just as the words ‘Viva Salazar’ fill you with pride, so does ‘Jai Hind’ galvanizes my spirit”. Although she was arrested, her
little act of bravery motivated several others against the foreign rule of the Portuguese.

Newsbharati salutes young Vatsala for her bravery."
