Malayalam film based on Malabar genocide of Hindus to be released after Onam festival

The Malabar genocide of 1921 was a systematic campaign of jihad against Hindus. The genocide, orchestrated by the likes of Variankunnath Kunhamad Haji, Ali Musaliar, and others, led to an estimated death of 10,000 Hindus in Kerala.

Kochi, August 23: In a major development, the much-awaited Malayalam movie '1921 Puzha Muthal Puzha Vare’ which is based on the Malabar genocide of Hindus, is going to be released after Onam this year.

Movies director and writer, Ramasimhan Aboobakker gave the information while talking to the private media house. As per Ramasimhan, the Bombay censor board has given permission to screen the film with an ‘A’ certificate.
 
It should be noted that the Kerala government-led state censor board had earlier denied the certificate to the Movie.
 
 
 
"After seeing the film, the censor board of Kerala, of which Parvathy is a member, sent the film to the Higher Committee in Mumbai. Some scenes were cut. The Bombay censor board has given permission to screen the film with an ‘A’ certificate. But the Kerala censor board was not satisfied with it. They again submitted the movie to the higher authority. The Bombay censor board has again given permission to screen the film with the changes made earlier”, he said.
 
 
“When a historical riot is depicted, there will be bloodshed. It cannot be avoided. That is why the film got an ‘A’ certificate. The movie does not show anything like rape, abuse, etc. The film will be released after Onam,” said Ramasimhan. The the-ten-day-long Onam festival is going to start on August 30 and end on Thursday, September 8.
