Rarely enough in our current political discourse do we see a thorough bashing which is based entirely on the facts and figures, as we just saw from Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. His reply to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s unprovoked and uninvited criticism was so thorough that nothing else needs to be said about the matter other than CM Sarma’s tweets themselves.

Kejriwal as usual tried to boast about his ‘NYT-certified’ education model by his spearheaded by his “Mr. Clean” Deputy CM Sisodia, on a news regarding Assam school. The news was reported by a media house about 34 schools in Assam being shut after abysmal results in those particular schools. To which Arvind Kejriwal for no reason whatsoever retweeted and said, “Shutting the schools is not an answer. We need to open more schools in the country. Instead of shutting schools improve the quality of education.” Now, this was a classic case of calumny.

But Assam CM stood true to his image and gave such a befitting reply that unfortunately for Kejriwal there is no place for him to hide. In his reply to Delhi CM, CM Sarma said, “Dear Arvind Kejriwal Ji, As usual, you commented on something without any homework! Since my days as Edu Minister, till now, please note, Assam Govt has established/ taken over 8610 NEW SCHOOLS; break-up below. How many new schools Delhi Government has started in the last 7 years? Provincialisation or taking over Pvt schools into govt fold since 2013:
  • Elementary 6802; Secondary 1589
  • Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya:81
  • Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Avashik Vidayalaya:3
  • Adarsha Vidyalaya:38
  • Tea Garden Model School:97

After giving these stats and stating facts, an ordinary politician would have been satisfied by such a befitting reply. But not Kejriwal, he went ahead and talked in his usual mindnumbing mediocre manner and tried to offer an olive branch after getting thrashed badly.

But that was not going to stop CM Sarma and he went ahead and wrote another tweet threat on which he thrashed CM Kejriwal and his politics even more. He said, “Dear Arvind Kejriwal Ji, Your ignorance is painful. Let me help you. Assam is 50 times bigger than Delhi! Our 44521 govt schools teach 65 lakh students- against your 1000+ odd schools. Our army of dedicated teachers numbers 2+ lakh; Midday meal workers 1.18 lakh. Fathom it?"

"Unlike in Delhi, we manage the fury of floods, dealt with militancy, negotiate hilly & tough terrains - and yet deliver high-quality education. We're amazing hosts. Please come; spend 2 nights in our riverine area and hill districts. See the challenges we face. You'll stop lecturing. We impart education in six mediums including 14 different tribal languages. Our diversity is something that we're proud of, cherish, & ensure to thrive through our unique education system. And yes, we do not have resources like that in Delhi. We're proud of what we've and do! And yes, when you're in Assam, which you so desperately wish to be, I will take you to our Medical Colleges, 1000 times better than your Mohalla Clinic. Also, meet our bright Govt school teachers & students. And yes, you don't have to trouble yourself with making India number 1. Modiji is doing that.”
