Qureshi, alias Salim Fruit, was detained by NIA in May this year, after raids against associates of gangster Dawood Ibrahim at over 20 places in Mumbai and Thane. He was also questioned by the agency.

NIA had also filed an FIR against Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Shakeel and the gangster's close associates.

According to the FIR, a special unit was created by Ibrahim from Pakistan to plot and carry out terror attacks in India. The work of this unit was to target & attack political leaders in India.

Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel conspired to incite riots in India from Pakistan, the FIR said. The case pertains to furthering terrorist activities like smuggling, narco-terrorism, circulation of fake Indian notes, money laundering and working in close association with international terrorists and Jihadi outfits such as JeM, LeT, Al Qaeda and acquiring assets to raise terror funding.

As per reports, Salim played a role in extorting large sums of money in the name of Chhota Shakeel. Those funds were later used to fund terrorism and further the criminal activities of the D-company.
