New Delhi, Sept 12: The people of Nanakheri village staged a protest against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s decision to build a residential school for Rohingya Muslims on the premises of the Secondary School in Nanakheri village on the Delhi-Haryana border.

The villagers said they would lay down their lives but would not allow Rohingyas to settle down on the land of their ancestors. They are concerned about the possible rise in crimes in the village if the Rohingyas settle there, the villagers also said.
 
 
 
They also alleged that the protests have been going on for more than a week. The Delhi government may not have changed its decision yet but their spirits have not weakened. Talking to a local news reporter, the women proters of Nanakhedi village said whether it takes 10 years or 20 years, they will continue their protest till the Kejriwal government decides to settle Rohingyas there. If the government doesn’t take back its decision and will die, but not allow Rohingyas to settle down in the village. This land belongs to their ancestors and will not allow Kejriwal to settle Rohingya Muslims on this land, the woman protesters said. There has been tremendous outrage among the villagers of Nanakheri agitating against the Delhi government’s decision to build schools for Rohingya Muslims. On August 28, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Deputy Manish Sisodia inaugurated the school for the children of Rohingya Muslims, thereafter triggering a strike by the villagers.
 
 
Over 1000 Rohingya refugees live in the camp located in Madanpur Khadar, Delhi but will be shifted to 250 EWS flats located in Bakkarwala village. The Delhi government was asked to arrange basic facilities in these flats, but the word was stopped midway for unknown reasons. While reports have been claiming that the Delhi government spent Rs 7 lakh on the tents of Rohingyas in Madanpur Khadar.
