New Delhi, Spetember 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are likely to hold a meeting on the sideline of the 22 edition of the Shanghai Cooperation Leadership (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan's Samarkand.

Kremlin issues a statement regarding this meeting. The two counterparts are expected to hold talks on trade as well as sales of Russian fertilizers and mutual food supplies, Kremlin noted in a statement.
 
"There are plans to discuss issues of 'saturation' of the Indian market with Russian fertilizers and bilateral food supplies," the statement on Tuesday read.
 
 
 
It should be noted that PM Modi is going travel Uzbekistan on Thursday, to attend the SCO summit which is sheduled to take place on on September 15-16 . The summit will be attended by leaders of SCO member states, observer states, Secretary General of the SCO, Executive Director of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS), President of Turkmenistan and other invited guests.
 
During the summit, the leaders are expected to review the organisation's activities over the past two decades and discuss the state and prospects of multilateral cooperation in the future. The SCO Summit has come at a time when there's a widening border dispute between India and China.
 
The SCO is the successor to the Shanghai Five, a mutual security agreement formed in 1996 between China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. In 2001, Uzbekistan became part of this summit. Further on July 7, 2002, its membership was expanded to eight nations, including India and Pakistan.Uzbekistan is the chair of SCO 2022 and India will be the next chair of the SCO.
