Sadhus attacked in Maharashtra on false suspicion of child - lifting; probe underway

The incident took place while the Sadhus from Uttar Pradesh were going for "darshan" to Pandharpur in Solapur after returning from a pilgrimage at Karnataka"s Bijapur.

Mumbai, Sept 14: Four Sadhus were allegedly attacked by villagers in Maharashtra's Sangli on suspicion of being child-lifters. The matter came to light after a video of the incident started surfacing on the Internet. However, the monks haven't registered any complaint.

The incident came forth from Maharashtra's Sangli, when residents of a village from Sangli's Umadi, allegedly attacked four Sadhus on suspicion of being child - lifters. The suspicion was based on a video that went viral on the the village network, leading to the violent incident.
 
 
According to reports, neither of the four Sadhus who have been been attacked, have registered any official complaint regarding the incident to the police. "We have not received any complaint or a formal report, but are looking into the viral videos and are verifying the facts," said Dikshit Gedan, Superintendent of Police, Sangli.
 
 
 
 
 
The incident took place while the Sadhus from Uttar Pradesh were going for 'darshan' to Pandharpur in Solapur after returning from a pilgrimage at Karnataka's Bijapur. For now , the official description of events says that the Sadhus were attacked by villagers in Sangli after they asked a child for some help.
 
However, the villagers mistook them and started thrashing them after a ruckus. The monks belonged to Panch Dashnam Juna Akhada in Mathura, who were on their pilgrimage to various places.
