We salute our Bravehearts and Param Vir Chakra awardees every year for their acts of selfless bravery. But do you know who designs it? Alsond, do you know she wasn't born in India?

Eve Yvonne Maday de Maros, a Swiss-born woman who was later married to an Indian Army Captain and changed her name to Savitri Khanolkar, was the brain behind it. Her knowledge of India’s ancient Puranic literature, and history, inspired her to create the design of the Param Vir Chakra.

She drew inspiration from Indra’s Vajra which could only be crafted due to the sacrifice of Rishi Dadhichi who selflessly perished for saving Humankind. The same selflessness can be seen in all the Param Vir Chakra awardees. She later also designed the Ashok Chakra, Mahaveer Chakra, Keerti Chakra, Veery Chakra and Shaurya Chakra.
