In a horrifying incident, two Dalit minor sisters were found hanging from a tree in Lalpur Majra Tamoli Purva village under the Nighasan police station of Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh after they were brutally raped and murdered. Here is all you need to know about it -

1.The bodies of the two Dalit sisters, aged 15 and 17, was found in a sugarcane field about a kilometre from their home late on Wednesday.
 
 
2.Total of six accused involved in crime in different ways have been arrested. Those arrested included a local villager, Chhotu Gautam, and five other men from a neighbouring village — Junaid, Sohail, Hafeezul Rehman, Karimudeen, and Adil.

It is pertinent to mention that Gautam is Dalit, and the other accused are Muslim.

4.Chotu, who was a neighbour of the girls, had introduced the two girls to these boys but was not at the scene of crime. The girls were lured to farms and raped by Sohail & Junaid. After the girls wanted the accused to marry them, Sohail, Hafizul, & Junaid strangulated with their dupattas and killed them. Following this, they called Karimuddin & Arif and hanged the girls to eliminate any proof.
 
 
5.The accused have been booked under section 302, 376 of Indian Penal Code and the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) act
 
 
6.The girls' family performed last rites after several hours as they demanded compensation, a quick trial and the death sentence for the six men.

The UP government said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed that the family of the girls is provided financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh, a pucca house, and a lease of agricultural land. The government also assured the family that the accused would be brought to justice soonest and the case would go to a fast-track court.

All 6 accused were sent to 14-day judicial custody and have been brought to Lakhimpur Kheri District Jail.
