Neeraja Bhanot

Let's hear the tale of the first female recipient of the Ashok Chakra award, who taught us an important lesson of humanity and became a true example of bravery.

We are talking about the braveheart flight attendant Neeraja Bhanot, who sacrificed her own life to save the life of 300 passengers from the terrorists who hijacked the 'Pan Am Flight 73' on Sept 5, 1986. Bhanot was killed while shielding children from terrorist fire.

She was the only woman who has been awarded by both Pakistan and India for showing great human kindness. In 2004, the Indian Postal Service issued a stamp in her honor.

News Bharati salutes Neeraja Bhanot for her bravery.
